You know, I think early on in the whole process I was really, you know, I was a little you know, I think somewhat hesitant around just the feeling of doing a vaccine and I've not been a person who's you know, frequented hospitals or whatnot in my lifetime. So, I mean, I knew I would do it, but at the same time I was like, Okay. I'm a little concerned. Especially just thinking of how they were going to roll it out and whether or not they were going to do it in a way that helped people feel safe and if enough people were going to do it, that it was worth getting involved in a vaccine process. And then it you know, it came out and I was happy to see that Vermont was pushing, you know, the vaccine and you know, sort of really positive ways but also making all the efforts to get people enrolled quickly, scheduled for their vaccine delivery.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1995/collection_resources/75283/file/161368#t=0.0,81.0"},{"id":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1995/collection_resources/75283/file/161368/transcript/38692/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And then, all of a sudden, I saw that there was BIPOC clinics and that you know, that we were put at the front of the list, literally like a day or so behind people who were, you know, seniors. And so, I literally got my scheduled first scheduled date was like, April 13 2021. It was like the day after my dad was scheduled so that felt pretty good to have the opportunity and get sort of put at the front of the line.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1995/collection_resources/75283/file/161368#t=81.0,123.0"},{"id":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1995/collection_resources/75283/file/161368/transcript/38692/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"It was clear that you know, Vermont was going to make sure that you know, the BIPOC community wasn't kept away from the vaccine through other circumstances. So that felt pretty good. And then I got my first dose- around the morning that I was gonna get my first dose, you know, I was a little nervous and wake up that morning, I turn on my phone like I always do, and I look at it, and the first thing I read is that Johnson and Johnson has just announced that they're recalling all of their doses, and I was scheduled for Johnson and Johnson. So like, I was like, That's sketchy. And for a minute, I was like, do I go, do I not go? Because I don't know. They're just saying that, you know, potentially dangerous, right? So I just thinking about it was like, Well, you know, these odds? They're not that bad. I'm just gonna go. So I went and and I was scheduled early enough in the morning that they put me for Moderna. So I was lucky I didn't have to wait or anything because they rescheduled everybody that they didn't have Moderna vaccines for. Everybody that was scheduled for Johnson and Johnson at that clinic was swapped over to Moderna and then they rescheduled the people they didn't have doses for so I got I got lucky I didn't have to wait. So I got my first dose the day after my dad did was a senior citizen and felt good to kind of get that out of the way with but at the same time, you know, it wasn't that you know, folks who were my age who weren't people of color were- it's not that they weren't able to get their vaccines. I saw plenty of people my age getting vaccines on the same day who were white and all they were doing, they were essentially just filling slots for cancellations, which seemed to be pretty easy to do. I'm sure I could have gotten a vaccine a week earlier had I done that. Because I know I had a friend who did exactly that. Because she was ready, ready to get that vaccine. And then, of course, you know, my second dose was a month later. That was pretty straightforward. You know, I didn't get too- think I got a little bit more unwell from the vaccine the second time then the first time, which I guess in my mind, that just meant I still had some some of the first one in me may not have worn off really and I was getting more of it. It really just lasted for the middle of night through the rest of the day and then it was kind of just low energy goes through the day after. But it was it was strange. I had like weird, weird dreams where I was really just half awake the whole time but I was having fever dreams and I was also able to like turn on a movie and like, remember all of the movie and not remember it at the same time. And we were, you know, people weren't really wearing masks that much anymore. I kind of kept wearing masks like, I mean, I tried it for a few weeks and then I just kind of felt like people weren't really paying attention to what was happening in the world and connect that variants were like going to sweep through real fast and catch people before they decided to put their mask back on so I'd been prepared and- easy to make that decision you know, it's better to see my family then and feel comfortable that I'm not putting anybody in danger. This trip to Europe was kind of making me a little nervous because you know, I hadn't been on a plane or anything since since essentially the day that that COVID was announced. So I went to Europe and made the trip over there. It was interesting. Over there, was a lot of similar separation or division around being vaccinated. I had a lot of family members who don't fit the same, you know, sort of dogmatic structures that that were against vaccination here but the division was still very much the same. People all didn't see eye to eye on the levels of control that the, you know, sort of established government has, you know, sort of imposed on people in terms of like socializing and being able to go out public or go to restaurants and whatnot. It was interesting to have those conversations with my family overseas and also, at the same time being someone who's traveling, being on guard constantly, despite the fact that we were vaccinated.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1995/collection_resources/75283/file/161368#t=344.0,488.0"},{"id":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1995/collection_resources/75283/file/161368/transcript/38692/annotation/6","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"And sure enough, like you know, like the day that I left to come back to Vermont, the Delta variant was discovered and, you know, spreading rapidly through Europe, and in particular, you know, areas of Europe that I had been in, and my dad was still out there, so I was a little worried about him and then he got really sick while he was out there. He kept testing negative but he was really sick for a few days. And within a couple few days of me getting back I got my third dose. My dad had already had his third dose. I got my third dose, also Moderna. And then you know, I also kind of got pretty ill that that time, more so than the second time, so it made me like not super excited to get more doses in the future. Right. So every time I hear that that might be a thing it just makes me a little uneasy. Putting my body through that was weird. I don't know whether it was stress or something else but I was getting like hives for like a month after my third dose. I don't know whether it was unrelated or not. It's hard to tell my doctor but it was annoying to be like constantly breaking out in hives and like you know, just constantly just all over my body were just like different spots for a few minutes at a time. I got really good at not scratching that I wasn't already. Yeah, so I, you know, I think about that quite a bit and then definitely not really looking forward to doing another one but at the same time, probably just like I was in the beginning I'm probably pretty likely to do it's gonna help reduce the risk of others potentially getting COVID. But at this point, the reason why I chose this particular video is, at the time I really hadn't made- since COVID started, I really hadn't made a lot of paintings, I had made maybe two or three. And on this day, I think I made six. And granted I made them small. Normally I would make a painting much faster and bigger and probably could do it in color in roughly a similar amount of time. I have a thing for tractors, I really love tractors. Part of that is that I've been really wanting one for years, because I'm always doing stuff that I should have a tractor for and I'll just do it anyway without a tractor, so by the time I got one, which is very similar to this, I can just get a lot more work done. And I think being able to get work done and do it you do bigger and bigger projects, is sort of like this thing that I've been thinking about for a long time which comes with age just like the older you get, the slower your body gets, and the weaker your body might get. But for some reason, you find yourself able to afford bigger and bigger toys or tools that help you do more work than you ever did when you had this strong body and I see all the time, I see that happening. So sort of thinking about different generations and thinking about sort of passing on my knowledge. When I'm 70 I'll be even more, if I still want to be getting work like that done, I'll be still needing these kind of tools and this kind of stuff. So just thinking generationally, but also about my own experience in and of itself. I can't really separate anything from you know, I can't separate one thing from another when it comes to my artwork. I think the fact that I had essentially stopped painting for the duration of COVID and had finally gotten to a point where I was able to paint again is, to me, that's sort of like, that'd be like the first time since COVID that I was actually not just forcing myself. It was just like I wanted to paint, I knew I wanted to, but I also knew that if I did try to force myself beyond my ability, I would be- I might not paint again for a long time. And so how I generate my work in general is with momentum, so I can't create narrative if I'm not in dialogue with my work. So this is the first real day since COVID started actually that I'm actually allowing myself to enter that dialogue and utilizing symbols that I had already began to develop and things that I was already attached to. Or what didn't stop since COVID was like me using that tractor and me working outside and I may have stopped making my artwork but I was, like, I've been working up a storm at home so it made, you know, my narrative always stems from my life experience. And not entirely my life experience but either the things that I'm engaged with or thinking about one way or another. So this is sort of me giving myself permission to step back into my narrative world. And also step back into rediscovering my own experiences and creating dialogue between my experience.
