TMy story is unique, as all stories are, and for me the process of vaccination is a little fraught. And I wound up- found myself kind of hiding in my apartment, my home, my house, because I, previously, a year and a half prior to that, I had heart surgery; half a year before that, I had a heart attack. And I was concerned because I was one of those at-risk people for being in the world. And it was kind of, you know, the world was a threatening place. I didn't know what was going to come after me. So when the vaccine was made available, I tried to get on quickly and being in Brattleboro, there was a line and all the first responders and all the essential folks needed to get stuff and then and no matter what when I said what my issue was, I wasn't pushed to the front of the line. And fortunately, the NAACP of Windham county opened up vaccination clinics for for BIPOC people. What is this vaccination? Are we rushing into this thing? Is the vaccination going to be more devastating to me than COVID? And now you understand I do have did have people friends and family members who had succumbed to COVID and one, a very close friend spent three months in a hospital because of COVID on a respirator, ventilator. So these were things that were in my life and and I'm an asthmatic as well. I had a heart attack. asthmatic, and I thought, oh, man, this is this is gonna be rough. Especially if vaccines- I stopped taking flu vaccines because of what they did to me. They hurt. I got worse problems from the vaccine than I did from the flu. So I was wondering was is this going to be the same. And fortunately, it wasn't. The vaccine- I was a little under the weather for about 12-14 hours. So it was a little bit more intense for those 12 to 14 hours. And then when the booster came available, eight months later, I didn't want to take it because I thought about the vaccine I already had, and what it did to me afterward. And like, I didn't think I needed the booster. Why would I need a booster when they gave the vaccine at first and it was that was what was going to do the trick? and I was worried having had a heart attack, being an asthmatic, that this booster would be detrimental to me. Now, the reasoning for that was because every time I got a flu vaccine, I would get a worse case of the flu than I'd ever gotten before. And so when I stopped getting flu vaccines, I stopped getting flu. And I thought, well, if I'm worried about getting COVID why would I get a booster? Get the booster. So I signed up to get the booster. And three days prior to getting the booster, I got COVID and it put me down for a week. Fortunately, I did have the first vaccine and I think that lessened the impact of the COVID in my body. And once again, it was like I could be alive. The tension that built from worry and fear and concern dropped away. And here I am.
