I find that they have been very well organized, and the major goal in my mind for all of these clinics is to get people vaccinated. And the best way to do that is to make them acceptable to the people you want to have vaccinated. So in this situation, it was very apparent to me that the, in many of the instances it was clinics, organized through the Health Department, partnering with, I believe it was the Association of Africans living in Vermont, as well as other well established Black and BIPOC organizations in town which I unfortunately don't remember the names of them. But that really maximized the opportunity to offer very successful clinics. People came. We were busy. People were prepared. People were competent. And I believe that the people who came appreciated it, they certainly were thrilled to be getting vaccinated. If there was any fear that I experienced coming from them, it was that not uncommon fear of needles, not of getting the vaccine. The clinics really adapted themselves to another important aspect of running clinics and that's to adapt them to the needs of the people that you want to bring in, allowing for areas where there can be some modesty of exposed- to allow for areas where, if most situations, it was women who wanted a little modesty. That's important.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1659/collection_resources/52209/file/174579#t=11.0,164.0"},{"id":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1659/collection_resources/52209/file/174579/transcript/41690/annotation/3","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"I think, to interject that how important it is to orient the staff. In the BIPOC and refugee clinics, most of the staff, not all, but most I would say were white. So I think having a little bit through our translators there as needed, was extremely helpful. Not having to rely on family members, all had very competent leadership staff, which is essential, competent in delivering vaccines and storing them, as well as the technology, because we are all working on laptops, and many of the people that were volunteering were retired with different levels of expertise in computers. So orienting staff and having the competency, and other leadership there was really helpful.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1659/collection_resources/52209/file/174579#t=164.0,227.0"},{"id":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1659/collection_resources/52209/file/174579/transcript/41690/annotation/4","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"I think it's, um, these clinics were different because everybody has a mask so you can't always read people's expressions, but people know if you're smiling, people know if you're having eye contact, little things that you might say, and trying to at least pronounce their name or asking them how they pronounce it. You know I worked a lot of the Winooski clinics. I had lived in Winooski for 20 years, raised my children there, and just reaching out to the people who live in that area. And that, that's obviously essential and it was done very well with these clinics.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1659/collection_resources/52209/file/174579#t=272.0,305.0"},{"id":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1659/collection_resources/52209/file/174579/transcript/41690/annotation/6","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Again, I think I mentioned how important it was to have all of the translators and to make people feel as comfortable as we can and in my mind that's through being kind and unrushed and going at the pace of the client coming in to attain the services that we had to provide. These clinics also were a wonderful example of how, if you want to be successful in public and community health, you go to where the people are, and you have them give input, in how to be most successful. The fact that we went to areas in my experience, we were at Winooski High School and the armory, we were still at the ONE center down in the Old North End and the Episcopal Church so places that were pretty easily accessible, places that had parking and going to the people, is, is really important.","format":"text/plain"},"target":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1659/collection_resources/52209/file/174579#t=305.0,384.0"},{"id":"https://clemmonsfamilyfarminc.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1659/collection_resources/52209/file/174579/transcript/41690/annotation/7","type":"Annotation","motivation":"transcribing","body":{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Lastly, I think, appreciating the staff who show up. And again, orienting them to the expectations, and if there's anything about the population in these instances in the BIPOC population or refugee populations that staff need to be oriented to or sensitized to is really, really important. And she had a Whitney t-shirt on, Whitney Houston t shirt on. So I just commented on that I said oh I love your T shirt it's so great and then I noticed that Whitney Houston's song, I Will Always Love You is playing in the background, and at these clinics, it was terrific because they did have music playing all through and fun music. So I commented to this 13 year old girl, I said oh my goodness, you're sitting here with Whitney's t shirt in here she's singing to you while you're getting your vaccine, and she has suddenly broke into this wonderful smile and just looked relaxed and in my mind, she just felt a little bit of a connection with being there.
